It's official!! A ribbon cutting ceremony is scheduled for tomorrow morning, Tuesday, at 10:00 A.M. The gates will finally open to welcome dogs & their owners to enter & enjoy the brand new & very beautiful dog park, Canine's Corner!!!
A 10:00 A.M. ribbon- cutting ceremony will officially open Canine's Corner, the new Pompano Beach dog park, on Tuesday June 29, 2010. The dog park etiquette class, presented by Lisa Hamburg & Brian Doyle, will continue to be held on the first Monday of every month. The 90 minute class is free but they ask everyone to register by calling 954-786-4111. The July etiquette class will be held on July 12th because of the 4th of July Holiday. The class is held in one of the classrooms at The Emma Lou Olson Civic Center located at 1801 NE 16th Street Pompano Beach & begins at 7:00 p.m. For more detailed information about the dog park & it's location, please read my other Canine's Corner/Pompano Beach Dog Park posts.I went to the June etiquette class & it was fun... I learned a few new things about dog health, body language & play; when I get a chance I'll write a post about the class
This is a view of the northern side of the park (large dog area). The new sidewalk in the small dog area is completed & now they're ready to build the sidewalk in the large dog area. The park is nice & big but I think it's going to be hot since I didn't see a lot of shade. The new Palm trees don't have mature fronds yet & most of the shade is around the perimeter of the large and small dog areas. There are two hoses just inside the main gated area that you can use to cool off your dogs or to fill water dishes. I couldn't see if there were dog water bubblers inside the main dog areas. I could see bubblers but I think that they were for people. There's a large sign that lists the dog park rules (there are 20) & another sign reminding everyone to please pick up after there dogs. The left corner of the fence ends at the sidewalk on US1/Federal Highway. On the right, out of sight, is more parking lot and the edge of the golf course. I'll be taking more pictures & posting them this week.
Just as I was getting ready to leave the park, two people came by with their dog to see if the park was open yet. They were nice enough to let me take a picture of their (big) puppy, Tabare'. He was happy, playful, sweet & full of energy! I'm so glad that soon there will be a safe place for Tabare' to run free, meet other dogs & different types of people. I wish that every town had a dog park like Canine's Corner & that our City beaches welcomed our pets.
I just read an online Sun-Sentinel article by Rebecca Dellagloria about the new dog park. It's scheduled to open on June 21st after the installation of sidewalks inside the fencing of the large-and small-dog areas is completed. The park has a name, "Canine's Corner", & it's address is 1101 N. Federal Highway which places it at the Southeast corner of the Municipal Golf Course Property. There's still time to attend this month's free Dog Park Etiquette class Monday night before the park officially opens (for the location/ time of the class see my earlier post) or just make sure that your dogs' vaccinations are up to date & plan on spending lots of time there this summer!
The last time I drove by the site for the new Dog Park, it looked like it was almost finished. I'm not sure if it has a name yet but it's located on US1/Federal Highway ( a few blocks north of Atlantic) on the corner of Ne 10th Street and Federal Highway. It's going to be great !!! It's huge & has separate areas for large & smaller dogs. The first Monday night of every month there's a "Dog Park Etiquette Class" consisting of a slide show presentation followed by questions & answers at The Emma Lou Olson Civic Center at 1801 NE 6th Street, Pompano Beach. I plan to go to the June class next Monday night & then share what I find out on the Blog. If you want to find out more before then, visit the Park's website,"The Dog Patch" at pompanodogpark.com
