Griswald & Kya are bulldogs dedicated to stopping the sale of pet shop puppies. Griswald is a brindle French Bulldog. He was born in an Oklahoma Puppy Mill then transported to The Gigi and Luca Pet Boutique, in Lighthouse Point, Florida, where he lived alone in a cage in their petshop window until I bought him in June, 2007. Kya, is a brown & white English Bulldog. She was about 18 mos. old when we brought her home in 2003. Her original owner couldn't keep her and she gave her to a friend. Kya was too rough with her new owners' dog and so her new owner gave her to us since we wanted to adopt a bulldog. Unfortunately, Griswald has many health problems which is common for puppies who are bred in puppy mills and sold wholesale to pet shops. The Griswald and Kya blog hopes to spread the word about where pet shop puppies really come from. When people stop buying puppies from pet shops and the internet, then the puppy mills will be forced to close. Griswalds' mother and thousands of other puppy- mill dogs are the invisible victims that we don't see when we fall in love with the cute puppies at the pet shop. The pet shop owners don't tell us about the contracts they have with large-scale breeders and auction houses. They don't tell us about the neglect and the suffering that is the norm for these animals or about the USDA violations their breeders accumulate year after year. "The dogs that are left behind" are the animals that Griswald & Kya are determined to save. They are looking for "Buddies" who will pledge to boycott pet shops that sell puppies. They need humans to help them to make a difference.
